Nikki is a veteran educator, librarian, Tutorial Technology Facilitator and ISTE Librarians Community President Elect. Students critically curate quite a lot of sources utilizing digital instruments to assemble data, produce inventive artifacts and make significant studying experiences for themselves and others. Being back on the elementary stage is a pleasure and is permitting me to discover new avenues of instructing and studying that simply didn’t exist my first time working in an elementary school library. One video I found particularly attention-grabbing – as a trainer and also because the mother or father of a kid who’s just started learning German at college – is entitled UK LINGUA – the students viewpoint in students focus on the transition from studying languages at school to studying languages at university. I’ve embedded it below.
They have a ton of resources that assist their raps so it isn’t simply showing them a cool educational music video. I use the “lyrics” first to verify the song helps instruction (or to see if I need to fill in any educational gaps). I then play it for college students utilizing the “fill within the blanks” activity. By doing this first I do know they have no less than heard the tune and have followed along with the lyrics (I print out this exercise so it is in their science pocket book). Then I show the video and do the fast evaluation (and have students make connections to our learning). Since I do work with 1:1 units I then assign the scholars the rap and quiz and have them hearken to the track on their own and take the quiz (for a grade!).
